I have always been fascinated by Fluorite and some of my first show pieces were indeed Fluorite from Weardale. The fascination has lasted and it is amazing that more often than not, Fluorite is included in the exhibits I make at mineral shows. Apart from Fluorite, the locality Ivigtut figures prominently in my collection ... it is a source of many rare and unusual fluoraluminates but has Fluorite too!

Fluorite on Rhodochrosite from 04-02 Pocket, 3rd Tetrahedrite Raise, Sweet Home Mine (Alma, Colorado, USA). Ex coll. Paul Harter, displayed at the TGMS show 2005.
Fluorite var. Blue John from Castleton (Derbyshire, England, Great Britain) was a popular ornamental stone in the early 20th Century. It is composed of bands of intergrown rods of Fluorite with alternating purple and colourless zones. Ex coll. Claus Hedegaard.
Purple Fluorite crystals from Cave-in-Rock (Illinois, USA) were bulk merchandise in the mineral business in the 1970s and 1980s; try to find one now! Ex coll. Claus Hedegaard.
Green Fluorite crystals from Deer Trail Mine (near Marysvale, Piute Co., Utah, USA). They are a combination of cube faces (relatively small, smooth) and octahedral faces (large, more rough). Ex coll. Claus Hedegaard.
A sample of standard-issue industrial Fluorite from Lissenthan at Nabburg (Oberpfalz, Bayern, Germany). If you hold it right, itŐs almost greenish! Industrial grade minerals are far from as pretty as those we like to put in our collections. In its day, Nabburg was the WorldŐs largest Fluorite mine. Ex coll. Claus Hedegaard.
