Sulfur Specimens

These Sulphur specimens from El Desierto were photographed by Jeff Scovil during the Mineralientage München in October 2000, and the photographs are reproduced with his permission.

A 3.2 cm single crystal with 'hopper' habit. Note, this is not a 'floater' - it used to be attached to the matrix at the pointed end. Sulphur is very brittle and unfortunately these crystals fall of the matrix, when collected.

An approximately 8.7 cm specimen with blocky Sulphur crystals. These are far less abundant than the pointed crystals, and rarely grow to more than 5-6 mm.

Pointed Sulphur crystals to 3 cm on matrix.

Pointed Sulphur crystals to 3 cm on matrix.
