Fossils and palaeontology; general
Sites in this section typically have
information on many fossils, many cursory locality descriptions or are collections of
very diverse material. Sites are listed alphabetically by name.
Black Hills Institute of
Geological Research
Very comprehensive site with numerous explanatory articles on palaeontology,
groups of fossil organisms, etc. with much on dinosaurs (Acrocanthosaurus, birds,
Ceratopsians, dinosaur Eggs , Edmontosaurs, Struthiomimus, T. rex, Triceratops),
reptiles (crocodiles, mosasaurs, pterosaurs), mollusks (ammonites, nautiloids and squid),
etc. Not bad, not bad at all.
The name says it all - a compilation of dino information, physiology, taxonomy,
theories, etc. Good design, but flawed by the many tiers means you must navigate
through to get to the actual information.

Material Safety Data
Sheets
Cleaning minerals and playing with chemicals ? Whether you are experienced or a
novice, you should know the do's and dont's of all the chemicals you have. As an
absolute minimum you need a Materials Safety Data Sheet for each. Your chemicals
supplier is required to furnish it with the chemicals, but the damn things get lost and
what not. Fortunately Univeristy of Cornell has a comprehensive site for searching and
downloading MSDSs.
The
World Wide Web Virtual Library: Museums
This is the most comprehensive list of links to museums' web sites, I have seen.
Not just natural history museums, and it also includes museum from 'exotic' countries.
An excellent source of information if you go somewhere or need to know more about
the culture or science of a country or region.
Collection
management
You realise your collection has a value beyond finances and your personal
entertainment, and you should like to take good care of it. The Society for the
Preservation of Natural History Collections offers advise (and occasional political
opinions!) on how to protect and preserve your collection. Be particularly careful about
generic observations like 'glue', 'acid' and do keep a proper catalogue, and ... The
Society's motto is "Improving preservation, conservation and management of natural
history collections to ensure their continuing value to society."
